Colours of the Sea

Now that we are decided our wedding will take place by the sea, it is only natural to want to take inspiration from the landscape. I think nature is the ultimate influence in creativity and want to use it to brainstorm possible colour palettes and ideas for a wedding theme. Colour is a perfect starting block, even if it is used as the theme itself, adding cohesiveness to an event and tying it all together. I am looking for hues that represent the sea.

I found this lovely picture in Elpelly’s Photostream on Flickr. It is particularly special as it has been taken from the waters at Carbis Bay. There is something about the colour of the sea around this area that almost looks mediterranean. I have a feeling that I will opt for a spectrum of ocean colours and all of their gradients. Colours that immediately spring to mind are

  • Azure Blue
  • Cyan
  • Aquamarine
  • Bottle Green
  • Turqouise

Sea Glass is another palette for inspiration. Ocean treasures of blue and green glass. I am hoping to come back to the theme of glass at some point as I think old bottles and jars will work really well with a seaside wedding.

As well as using photographs of the area, another fantastic source of colour inspiration is Colour Lovers. Here are a few colour swatches I have taken a fancy to.
